Joze Plecnik was one of the most important architects in Slovenia. His best-known works in Ljubljana include the
national and university library, and other impressive structures are churches with church fittings and small
chapels. The church of St Francis in Siska and the Church of St Michael in Cranavas are not to be missed. He
also worked in Vienna and Prague as a student of Otto Wagner. But to understand Joze Plecnik you have to visit
his house, today a museum in Trnovo. Taking a look at his life gives us an opportunity of understanding this
unique architect a little better. It seems as if everything he touched became magic, yet all he would say about it
was “I am just a pencil in the hands of God.” (Mateja Kregar Glih). After the death of Joze Plecnik the building was
completed by the architect Jurij Kobe.
