An Antique Stone House On The Lago Maggiore

GHIFFA, Italy

Property Description

In Ghiffa, the Riviera of Lake Maggiore, you will find an antique house hidden in the silence of a small town 2 km from Verbania and 5 minutes from the lake beaches. Arranged on two floors for 130 square meters and equipped with a large terrace that can be used as a summer living, the house is the perfect base for discovering the area with walks in the woods and in the mountains, sailing and canoeing and cycling outings. The ski fields are about ten kilometers away.

The property, which dates back to the first half of the Eighteenth century, was completely restored in 2014; roof in "piode", stone columns from the Ossola valleys and natural water colors, chosen from the 1930s palette, reflect the characteristics of the houses of this ancient coastal town, which boasts Roman origins. The living spaces are arranged on two floors with internal double staircase (in cast iron) and external (in stone). The access is by a lovely courtyard of exclusive property, decorated with flowering and evergreen plants. The porch, the large covered terrace and the sleeping area overlook a quiet courtyard, while from the balcony of the living room (with fireplace) you can enjoy the view of Lake Maggiore and the mountains of the Lombardy lakeside. The living room leads to a bathroom, equipped with a shower. The large cave can be used as storage for bicycles or as a basement room. There is also a second entrance at the back of the house.

Downstairs, the floors are made of old stone and grit, on the first floor a new parquet made of ash-stained larch wood has been laid. The furniture, which can be purchased on request together with the house, is a mix of vintage and antique furniture selected according to the spirit of the rooms, and curiosities from brocante. In the kitchen, with a coffered ceiling, a Genoese marble sink, originally from the Nineteenth century, was installed

Despite its antique age, the house offers all the comforts of a modern certified residence, with totally renovated facilities. The new visible electrical system is equipped with ceramic switches. The heating is methane gas. The attic area (about 50 square meters) could be recovered and made habitable.

The Swiss border is a 40-minute drive away from the hosue, Milan is an hour and a half from the motorway or, alternatively, can be reached by bus or train from the Verbania-Fondotoce station. Hydrofoils and boats connect Verbania with Stresa, the Borromean Islands, Arona, Laveno, Luino and all the most renowned places of Lake Maggiore. Public parking is one minute walk from the house. At 5 minutes there are grocery stores, a pharmacy and a post office.
